One of Maui’s best chefs is also one of Maui’s busiest.  Chef Beverly Gannon keeps herself occupied by owning three restaurants, running a catering company, traveling around the world, and keeping up with her husband, Joe.  Soon, she will be off again on the Tapas & Treasures Cruise around the Mediterranean.  So how does a Bev Gannon foodie fan keep up to date with her latest adventures, culinary endeavors, and life experiences? 

The answer is Five Bites with Bev: five questions that give you an insider’s look into the fascinating life of Chef Bev Gannon.   

 

1.  What is one of your earliest food memories that has stayed with you?

My dad took me to a restaurant outside of Paris when I was 16 called Le Coq Hardy.  I had a sautéed chicken breast with a morel cream sauce.  I thought I had died and gone to heaven! I  have had a love affair with Morel Mushrooms ever since.

 

2.  What is your favorite music to listen to in the kitchen?

Oldies: Bread, Donna Summer, Dire Straits

Current: Adele, Maroon 5

 

3. What is your favorite activity to do on Maui?

Taking long walks, working out with weights… It keeps me going.  I hope one day to include going to the beach!!!

 

4. What is your ultimate comfort food?

Fried Chicken with Honey drizzled on it.

 

5. What is the most exotic food you have ever eaten?

Duck embryo when I was in a market in Vietnam… and Lemongrass Stuffed Frogs on a stick when I was inMyanmar (Burma).  They were being cooked on a roadside grill in a tiny village.  It was DELICIOUS!
